Fullerton College uses Accuplacer as its standardized test for English as a Second Language (ESL), and the California Chemistry Diagnostic Test for Chemistry.

Fullerton College’s ESL Assessment test (ACCUPLACER) is a suite of tests consisting of two modules that quickly, accurately, and efficiently assesses ESL Reading Skills and Sentence Meaning, there is no time-limit. Reading skills measures your ability to read English. Specifically, it assesses your comprehension of short passages. Sentence meaning measures how well you understand the meaning of sentences in English. It assesses the understanding of word meanings in one-sentence or two-sentence contexts. The Chemistry assessment test is a multiple-choice paper/pencil test with 44 questions and a 45 minute time limit. Books and notes are not allowed, but basic calculators are permitted. The Periodic Table of the Elements and a table of symbols and abbreviations are provided on the back of each test booklet. Competency areas of the test are: Compounds and elements; states of matter; reactions of matter; structure of matter; periodic properties; solutions; qualitative kinetics and thermodynamics; lab skills and mathematical skills. Be aware that it is expected that upon placement into CHEM 111AF you will have mastered the content of an Introductory Chemistry course.
